Adults Needed!
It takes a village to raise a child.
Here in Keokuk County, teens need you!!! You, the adult, play an important role in the development of our youth. They take your queue on everything from how to treat others to what is socially acceptable. When it comes to alcohol, we need to adopt a "no tolerance" policy. That means that we don't want our youth to become victims of the multiple negative consequences of alcohol abuse.
"How do we do that?" you ask? There are several way to ensure our youth stay away from alcohol and other harmful substances. Here are just a few:
- Lock up and/or monitor the amount of alcohol that you have in the home
- Never allow anyone under 21 to consume alcohol in your home or on your property
- Encourage teens to become active in positive community activities (extra curricular activities, church groups, volunteer organizations, etc.)
- Host a non-alcoholic party for teens and adults
- Support efforts to reduce alcohol abuse
- Encourage liquor license holders to attend the "Merchant Alcohol Training" Program offered free of charge to all Keokuk County Businesses
- Monitor your own alcohol use
- Report any illegal activity to law enforcement
- Advocate for improved regulation and laws for substance abuse prevention
The problem of alcohol abuse by teens is not a teen problem--it is an adult problem. Please join the efforts to reduce alcohol abuse in Keokuk County. They are our future.
